When I received the invitation to the press conference for the exhibition of contemporary jewelry collection by Angela de Nozza for Fratelli Piccini Atelier I didn’t think twice and said yes: I knew that beyond the beauty of the jewels I would discover something wonderful!
And so it was. A place like Florence always offers fascinating secret stories, and this time I heard about a group of artists and thinkers, a family tradition and a ancient dog breed that reminds us of ancient energetic powers in nature.
Wearing a symbol and its significance
Angela’s jewelry collection has a very bold and colorful style, and is made with stones with bright tones, and any jewels is conceived to be the most defining detail of an outfit.
The main character of the story is a dog, a Mastiff. Angela has some of these dogs at home, and when she first met this breed she decided that she should study about its past, as dogs never are mentioned in history books.
The Mastiff is the dog that was seen and described by Marco Polo, Alexander the Great’s dog, the dog from the Eurasian Steppe, a dog that in ancient times was covered with an armor and went to the battlefields side by side with the soldiers.
Angela said that its solemnity reminds her of an ancestral power, to a primary Energy that nowadays humanity does not remember anymore but should be reminded of. “The Mastiff represents a prehistoric animal, who communicates our regret about the loss of some ancient heroic eras, lost but never forgotten”.
A history of friendship and Art
Angela studied with Pirzio, who used to be the leader of the Compagnia del Paiolo, a group of artists and thinkers, and Armando Piccini was a friend of this group’s leader and founder. This is the reason for their deep connection.
Did you know that Armando Piccini left some precious stones to the Municipality of Florence and that you can admire them at Museo degli Argenti? Nowadays Fratelli Piccini is a company composed of and ruled by some women from the family.
We had the precious opportunity to visit the old workshop of Fratelli Piccini atelier, and it was a captivating experience that truly fascinated me. The best part was being able to get over the Atelier’s terrace, right over Ponte Vecchio, a great show that cannot be enjoyed by many, just think that though I obviously hang out in this area very often for my job, such an experience doesn’t happen every day.

Today on Monday 30th from 12 to 6 pm you will be able to see Angela’s works at the Atelier Fratelli Piccini.
At the press conference we didn’t see her paintings, but they are going to be exposed today!
They will show us Angela’s soul and her metaphysical art because as she told us “Art is the last men’s consolation”. A Vogue Italia journalist who was participating said that she believed it should be the first one, and Angela specified that Art, like in Nietsche’s school of thought, is what remains to humanity in such shaky and uncertain times like the ones we are living in right now, when every benchmark can be easily lost.

Pietre preziose, antiche memorie e una terrazza sui tetti di Ponte Vecchio
Quando ho ricevuto l’invito per la presentazione alla stampa della collezione di Angela de Nozza per Fratelli Piccini, sapendo che si sarebbe svolta nell’atelier, non me lo sono fatto ripetere due volte: immaginavo che oltre alla bellezza del gioiello ci sarebbe stato qualcosa di straordinario da scoprire!
E infatti così è stato. Una città come Firenze offre sempre dei piccoli segreti, un gruppo di artisti e pensatori, un paradosso e il mastino come simbolo della forza primigenia della natura.
Indossare un simbolo e il suo significato
La collezione di Angela è davvero bold e colorata, fatta di pietre dai toni vibranti, e sono gioielli che sono decisamente protagonisti.
Ma il vero protagonista è il mastino. Angela possiede diversi di questi cani, e l’incontro con questo molosso le ha fatto venir voglia di studiare e scoprire alcuni aspetti della storia che sui nostri libri non appaiono…
Il mastino è il cane che marco Polo vide in Asia, è il cane di Alessandro Magno, è un cane della steppa, un cane a cui veniva fatta indossare un’armatura e prendeva parte alle guerre a fianco dell’uomo.
Angela dice che la sua solennità le fa pensare a una forza ancestrale, a un’energia primaria che l’umanità di oggi sta perdendo e che dovrebbe recuperare. Un animale quasi preistorico, che trasmette il rimpianto di tempi eroici lontani ma non dimenticati.
Una storia di amicizia e arte
La formazione artistica di Angela proviene dal suo maestro Pirzio, leader della Compagnia del Paiolo, un gruppo di artisti e pensatori, amici di Armando Piccini.
Sapevate che Armando Piccini la lasciato delle pietre al comune di Firenze e potete ammirarle al Museo degli Argenti? Oggi l’atelier Fratelli Piccini in realtà è condotto da “sorelle”, perché è una ditta totalmente al femminile.
Abbiamo potuto visitare il vecchio laboratorio dell’Atelier Fratelli Piccini, e devo dire che è stata una esperienza affascinante e ricca di storia, che mi ha ammaliato.
Infine, la parte finale è stato il potersi affacciare alla terrazza che dà sull’Arno. Pur vivendo a Firenze e frequentando ovviamente questo ambiente per via del mio lavoro, non mi era mai capitato di visitare una location così esclusiva, anche perché effettivamente una cosa del genere non capita tutti i giorni…
Nietsche che danza e se la ride del nulla
Oggi Lunedì 30 dalle 12 alle 18 verranno presentate tutte le opere dell’artista preso l’Atelier Piccini . All’anteprima per la stampa non è stato possibile esporli, ma oggi vedrete anche i quadri. E ne vale la pena, perché incontrare l’anima di Angela è scoprire un’arte metafisica, perché come dice lei “l’Arte è l’ultima consolazione dell’uomo”. La giornalista di Vogue Italia presente in conferenza stampa ha obiettato che in realtà dovrebbe essere la prima. Ma come ha detto Angela, in un’epoca di grandi incertezze a volte l’arte è l’unica che ci rimane.
