How to Wear Cufflinks in the Right Way

Cufflinks are the most important jewels a gentleman can wear. They can be bold or minimal, stylish of ironical. They always speak for their owner’s personaliy and mood.

Some men wear them because of an office dress code; some men truly love them and wear them enthusiastically, matching their style to their fashion sense. Let’s talk about cufflinks!

Which Kind of Cufflinks should you Choose?

First of all, you should not confuse them with the studs. Studs are the decorative fasteners that we use in the buttonholes of a tuxedo shirt. Cufflinks might come in a stud style, but they still are something definintely different.

There are three main types of cufflinks: clasp, double sided and silk knot. The first ones are with two different parts, one is the decoration and the other one is the closure on the other side; the second have the same design on the external and the closure, the third ones are in silk and show a knot on both sides.

French Cuff or Convertible Cuff?

There are two types of cuff you can wear cufflinks with. The best option obviously is with the french cuffs, that are the cuffs created to fìwear cufflinks, they are doubled layered and have the perfect lenght to go with your jewels, they are moreover the most apprprpiate option for wearing them.

The convertible cuffs are single layered barrell cuff with an extra buttonhole to accomodate your cufflinks.

What Dress Codes say about Cufflinks

We’ll take into consideration three main dress codes: white tie, black tie and the canonic corporate style.

Black tie dress code is basically about wearing a tuxedo. We already mentioned something about it above. It’s a very elegant style but you have to keep it simple and classic. Jewels and metallic parts of accessories must be in silver. Not only the cufflinks and the studs, but also belt buckle and watch.

White tie: it’s the most formal style of all. Cufflinks must be elegant too, and the appereance must be luxurious. Leave your stylish designed modern contemporary cufflinks at home. Not only metal but mother of perals for instance.

Corporate style: for a work occasion you’ll probably wear a white shirt and a suit. It has to be obviously plain and neutral, so go for a stylish design to express your personality, but remember: all the elements have to be really very polished, so no silk knot cufflinks during your job hours. You may want to wear a blue shirt, that is still possible. Silver and blue cufflinks are the best match in this case. Just keep in mind that they should be in a different shade from that of your shirt.

I gemelli rappresentano il gioiello più importante per lo stile al maschile. Questo vale per tutti gli stili, che siano importanti o minimalisti, stilosi o ironici. Questo dettaglio parla per il colui che o indossa, raccontando la sua personalità e il suo mood.

Alcuni uomini li indossano a causa del dress code lavorativo, altri li amino davvero, e quindi li indossano con entusiasmo. Chi ha uno spiccato senso dello stile sa come farli aderire al proprio concetto personale di eleganza. Prepariamoci a capire un po’ meglio i gemelli!

I vari tipi di gemelli 

Prima di tutto, non vanno confuse con gli “stud”. Questi infatti sono i gioielli in metallo, o meglio le decorazioni, che si inseriscono nelle asole delle camicie da abito da sera. I gemelli possono essere concepiti nello stile degli stud, ma si tratterà pur sempre di elementi decisamente diversi.

Ci sono diversi tipi di gemelli: chiusura a clip, a bottone e a nodo in seta.

I primi sono composti da due parti diverse, una è la decorazione e l’altra è l’elemento che chiude il gioiello; il secondo ha lo stesso design sia all’esterno che all’interno; il terzo mostra un nodo in seta su entrambe e parti.

Tipi di manica: alla francese o convertibile?  

Ci sono due tipi di manica sulle quali possono essere indossati i gemelli. La scelta migliore cade ovviamente sulla camicia coi polsini alla francese, quella per intenderci, che è stata ideata appositamente per indossare i gemelli. Questa camicia ha i polsini doppi e hanno la lunghezza perfetta per questo tipo di gioiello. Chiaramente, per il risultato che si otterrà, si tratta dell’opzione più consigliabile.

I polsini convertibili, invece, sono polsini con un solo strato di stoffa che presentano una sorta di asola extra in cui si possono inserire i gemelli.

Cosa prevedono i vari Dress Code

Prenderemo in considerazioni I tre principali dress code: white tie, black tie e il più canonico stile corporate.

Il Black tie comporta l’indossare l’abito da sera, cioè lo smoking. Abbiamo già accennato a questo stile supra. Ovviamente per definizione è uno stile elegante, ma è importante mantenerlo comunque semplice e il più possibile classico.
I gioielli e le parti metalliche devono essere in argento. Non solo quindi i gemelli egli stud, ma anche la fibbia della cintura e l’orologio.

Il White tie è lo stile più formale di tutti. I gemelli qui devono essere anch’essi eleganti, dall’aspetto lussuoso. Lasciate pure a casa i gemelli moderni dal design contemporaneo che indossate in riunione! Qui è meglio optare su abbinamento di metallo con madreperla per esempio.

Al lavoro: per un’occasione importante per la vostra professione, con ogni probabilità vi recherete in azienda indossando una camicia bianca e un abito intero. L’insieme deve ovviamente essere abbastanza lineare e neutro, ma ricordate: tutti gli aspetti devono essere curati e molto “puliti”, quindi niente gemelli col nodo di seta in ufficio.
Una variante è data dalla possibilità di indossare la camicia azzurra al posto di quella bianca. In questo caso i gemelli dovrebbero essere in argento e blu, è l’abbinamento più felice. Notare che è consigliabile un blu diverso da quello della camicia.
