As you probably know, in 2019 the whole world is about to honor Leonardo da Vinci, in the 500th anniversary of his death.  So many and important museums all across Europe have big celebrations in program for this commemoration. The Uffizi, V&A Museum, Louvre just to name a few, will open some fascinating Leonardo da Vinci themed exhibitions.

Prato is a city that we know having very active and dynamic people living and working in it, people who love everything futuristic. In Prato it is already possible to visit a stunning exhibition, where you can see some 3D reconstructions of the machines designed by Leonardo da Vinci for the textile industry of his time, and enjoy some engaging stories from the multimedia installations.

Why you should visit this Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit in Prato

My readers know I sometimes like to give some suggestions about interesting locations and places of interest to visit. This time I’ll write about Museo del Tessuto, the Textile Museum in Prato. It’s quite an engaging place to visit, because Prato is the most important textile district in Europe. So you get why it’s amazing.

Prato is a city quite close to Florence and it’s very easy to reach. Also, its historic center definitely is beautiful and interesting to visit.

But I think the best part of visiting Prato is getting to know the “contemporary” and more active locations entities that are worth discovering. Such places do exist only because the manufacturing here is at a very high level and very much alive. Surely the Textile Museum is one of such places.

What Leonardo da Vinci did in Milano

I think it would be unthinkable to miss this exhibition for those who love the history of fashion and custom. One of the aims of the exhibition is to show the atmosphere of that era and its production centers, and not only an engineering technical point of view.

Leonardo da Vinci’s work on the design of the looms is dated in a period from 1493 to 1497, when he was in Milan working at the court of the Sforza, sent and supported by Lorenzo il Magnifico.

By the way. Did you know the design made by Leonardo da Vinci was considered so complex that these machines had to wait three centuries to be actually made from them? And that’s not all: nowadays still we think they have a great complexity as we see them in the Codex Atlanticus.

Italy and France and the Fashion business

Talking such positive things about the made in Italy fashion production is very important to me, as it represents my way of living. I really do think Italy and France create the best in the world in this area. So this is why I would like to tell you some numbers about the textiles manufacturing in Prato, that is such an influential production district.

This district is composed by many small or medium businesses that, all together, every day have to face such strong competitors as the German or the Chinese ones. And they are doing very well indeed, because their entire industrial production has grown to +4,8% from 2017 and their exportations have grown in 2018 to 11,9% compared to 2017. This group is made of “only” about 100 companies that are connected by the north Tuscany general section of the Confederation of Italian Industry.

I think we definitely make Leonardo da Vinci proud!

As a proud fashion insider my motto is “positivity”!

I personally love having a positive aptitude myself and seeing the same positivity in other people. And I don’t like negative people and negative talks. I also don’t have much in sympathy those who always feel the need to make negative talks about the Italian productions and our image as it can eventually be perceived abroad. Some seem to be doing it as a matter of principle! I really think it’s a very bad habit. It doesn’t affect the actual situation to be honest, but it makes me think that some of us mostly are pessimistic and lame.
I think this is why I’ve always worked in the Fashion business so I feel that most of these negative talks should not be applied to the Fashion field at all.
Fashion and Design are the areas where we have lots of amazing excellences. We have the capability to work at very high levels even when we talk about medium businesses. Our territories and districts are able to offer a lot in this sense.
Visiting this exhibition just made me even more conscious of this!

Come sicuramente saprete, l’anno prossimo il mondo celebrerà i 500 anni dalla morte di Leonardo da vinci. Gli Uffizi, il V&A Museum e il Louvre, solo per dirne alcuni, ospiteranno delle mostre a tema.

A Prato hanno già aperto i battenti con un’esposizione davvero affascinante, che riproduce i macchinari progettati da Leonardo da Vinci per il tessile, e con audiovisivi spiega la filiera produttiva.

Perchè visitare questa mostra dedicata a Leonardo da Vinci a Prato

Ogni tanto mi piace darvi dei consigli sulle location interessanti e sulle cose da visitare. Questa volta vi voglio parlare del Museo del tessuto di Prato. Si tratta di un posto molto interessante da visitare, perché Prato è il più importante distretto europeo del tessile.

Prato è una città non lontana da Firenze, quindi è facilmente raggiungibile. Oltretutto ha un centro storico decisamente bello.

Ma la cosa fantastica di Prato è che è, appunto, un distretto produttivo molto importante, che ha molte realtà da conoscere assolutamente. Il Museo del tessuto è sicuramente una di queste.

Ma che cosa faceva Leonardo da Vinci a Milano?

Per gli amanti della storia della moda e del costume è a mio avviso un’esposizione imperdibile. La mostra vuole illustrare l’atmosfera dei centri produttivi dell’epoca, non solo quindi dal punto di vista ingegneristico.

A proposito: lo sapevate che alcuni disegni di Leonardo da Vinci erano così all’avanguardia da poter essere realizzati in macchine soltanto tre secoli dopo? In realtà li troviamo abbastanza complessi anche adesso.
Il suo lavoro sui telai è del periodo 1493-1497, il periodo in cui era a Milano alla corte degli Sforza, era comunque sostenuto da Lorenzo il Magnifico.

L’Italia, la Francia e il business della moda

Io tengo molto ad esaltare il Made in Italy. Credo proprio che nella moda Italia e Francia producano il top del top. Per cui, ecco alcune cifre di questo importante distretto meccanotessile. Esso comprende molte piccole o medie imprese che ogni giorno si scontrano con colossi come quelli tedeschi o cinesi, e nonostante ciò vanno decisamente bene. La chiave è la qualità del prodotto! L’export infatti è salito nel 2018 del 11,9% rispetto al 2017. Si tratta circa un centinaio di imprese legate a Confindustria Toscana Nord.

Come orgogliosa insider di settore il mio motto è “positività”!

Personalmente non amo chi in generale parla delle produzioni del nostro paese in modo negativo quasi per principio. Credo che chi si concentra su aspetti negativi si stia rivolgendo a settori che di sicuro non sono quelli legati alla moda. Sono inoltre convinta che il Made in Italy sia il top della gamma in questo settore, e i numeri e la realtà dei fatti mi danno ragione. Basta guardare ai brand di punta. Si tratta di un settore che vanta moltissime eccellenze, e in cui il design e il management ottengono ogni anno risultati ottimi numerosi riconoscimenti.
Mi perdonerete spero per questa dissertazione, che è a mio avviso solo apparentemente estranea all’argomento, ma l’ho voluto sottolineare perché visitare una mostra come questa mi fornisce ulteriore conferma alle mie convinzioni!
