Braces are just a great accessory, because they not only are cool and classy at the same time, but can even be a smart and strategic element in  your best outfit. In the USA, the braces lovers’ mood is mostly about their practicality, while for the British it’s about a sense of tradition. Perhaps in Italy they do not have the same popularity than in the USA. I think they’re considered a dandy like item.
I have to say that they do not perfectly fit  to the Italian sartorial style trousers. Besides In Italy there are not such celebrities who successfully wear them and make them iconic and the base of his signature look, as Larry King has done in the USA!

Maybe not everybody knows that braces were originally conceived to be worn under the waistcoat. Today they are totally visible whenever you remove your jacket. Unless you are wearing a waist coat of course!
The classical material in which braces are made is the Box Cloth, while today there also come in some synthetic fabrics.
Those in braided leather have been traditionally found only in New York at the Brooks Brothers’ boutique, for a long time.
The best known provider is Albert Thurston (house founded in 1820), that has had famous and stylish clients such as  Frank Sinatra.
As a general rule, the perfect way to wear suspenders is by matching  the color of their leather details to the shoes. They mostly are in black or brown in the average formal business attire.

Why you should consider wearing Braces

But why should you wear braces today? Because the ones with a very good quality can keep the trousers at the same perfect height, making them look  totally flawless in every moment. Because of their vertical line they make the body’s shape look better. Besides this accessory is much better than the belt at summer.

Remember that they must be chosen accordingly to the trousers model you are going to wear, and that the typical Italian sartorial style isn’t the best for this choice. Otherwise, they will look perfect with the very high waisted traditional American trousers .

I think the most famous testimonial of this era is Ed Westwick acting as Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl! Most nothworthy, he made braces look a little bit more popular and cool maybe.

Le bretelle sono un grande accessorio, dal momento che non solo sono cool e di classe allo stesso tempo, ma possono essere un elemento strategico in un outfit. Da quanto vedo tendenzialmente sono un accessorio ancora considerato a torto “da dandy”.

Forse non tutti sanno che originariamente erano state concepite per essere indossate sotto il panciotto, ma la loro immagine adesso è cambiata, e, a meno che non ne indossiate uno, le bretelle sono naturalmente visibili ogni volta che ci si toglie la giacca.
Il materiale classico in cui sono fatte è stato per molto tempo il Box Cloth, mentre oggi esistono molte varianti sintetiche.
Solo a New York da Brooks Brothers per molto tempo si sono potute  acquistare quelle in cuoio intrecciato.

Perchè decidere di indossare le bretelle

Perchè indossarle? Perché se sono di ottima qualità mantengono sempre il pantalone alla stessa altezza, e Il pantalone risulta quindi impeccabile in ogni situazione. Perché con la loro linea verticale slanciano la figura. Perché è una soluzione più fresca per l’estate rispetto alla cintura.

Ricordate che vanno scelte in base al tipo di pantalone; il pantalone italiano non si presta particolarmente a questo accessorio. Perfetto invece è il pantalone americano tradizionale, con la vita molto alta.

Penso che il testimonial più di spicco di questo periodo possa essere stato Ed Westwick quando ha interpretato Chuck Bass in Gossip Girl. Ha decisamente rilanciato questo capo in una versione classica ma moderna al tempo stesso.
