How to Accessorize Velvet with Jewels

In my last post I wrote a short guide about how to style velvet clothes. Here I want to write about the right occasions when to wear this beautiful fabric and how to accessorize it.
As an Image Consultant I feel I have to give my readers some advice about it. In fact, velvet isn’t always the best choice for business attire, not to mention corporate style. It can make the best outfit for those who are an artist or work in a creative environment. The best results are in an artsy-chic outfit. Remember the 70s mood we talked about in my latest post!

What’s the right time to wear velvet?

Always keep in mind that while it can be worn in the daytime, I wouldn’t recommend a velvet total look in the morning or in the afternoon. Unless your personality makes you feel in the right mood when wearing a bold style!

Velvet clothes have traditionally been considered absolutely great for going out in the evening. A black velvet shirt with black trousers and a pair of pumps is a great timeless outfit.

Note that you are not really in need of a blazer here, because a black velvet shirt or blouse already has enough bold personality and can be worn alone. It won’t turn out to be too moderate anyway, because it always tends to appear sleek and silky. Velvet is going to make you look bold and elegant, even in the most conservative and classy style.

Style tip: depending on the occasion and your mood, a black velvet outfit can turn out to be quite mysterious and dark if you style it in the right way.

How to wear your best jewels with velvet clothes

Velvet naturally gives you a great appeal, so I strongly recommend you to avoid wearing jewels with many shiny stones, because this would create some kind of visual confusion in the visual perception.
Keep your styling neat and coherent with the fact that this fabric may turn potentially dramatic when overdressed!

I know: in the evening you may want to wear your boldest jewels. Anyway, keep in mind this: velvet already is an attention getter! This is why jewels shouldn’t be in real contact with it. Remember we do not want to create any sort of confusion in any area of our outfit.

If you wear a blouse with long sleeves, wear as many rings as you want but keep an eye of bracelets. Wearing too many things at our wrists might be too much, as well as very unpractical!

You should never wear necklaces that are too bold.  We don’t want to create a messy area near our face! On the contrary, necklaces should be made in pearls or any semiprecious stones. best if slightly opaque in cabochon cuts; I wouldn’t recommend wearing multifaceted pearls, because we don’t need any additional light in our décolléte. We want the others to see our face, not our jewels!

I definitely would say yes to bold earrings because they don’t mess with your velvet clothes and give your outfit a daring mood!

How You Know you’re Doing it Right

Now close your eyes and try to focus on yourself sitting at the restaurant table. What do the others see?  your bust, face, arms, hands. Think about all the things we just said about it: the occasion, the optical enlargement, the volumes and the areas of your outfit.

Now think about your velvet blouse and the jewels while you speak and move your hands. Is it working? Is it making you feel right? it if you imagine your perfect restaurant outfit and If you say yes, you made it! Enjoy your flawless evening outfit!

A Case History – or the Day When I Didn’t Agree with Anyone in the Room!

Confession time: It happened a long time ago! The worst velvet outfit I’ve ever seen was a velvet-total-look-blend of different styles and many jewels from different brands. Like, Cavalli, AND Prada, AND Armani. Together.
I can guess the idea was some kind of “everything in light green no matter what”.
The “guilty part” was an influential design journalist. She was sitting in this armchair and everybody was standing around her, screaming “you’re a goddess!” and inside my mind I was only screaming “OH GOD this is murder, someone call the fashion police!”
Trust me, I can be quite sure that that day was the very first time I wanted to write this article.
Or ask if the circus was in town.

What is your mood when you get ready for the evening? Do you tend to be conservative or dramatic? It’s amazing how velvet can be both! I personally tend to be quite basic to be honest. Let me know about your style preferences!

Come scegliere i gioielli per l’outfit in velluto

Nel mio ultimo post avevo scritto una breve guida su come indossare gli abiti in velluto. Qui voglio scrivere invece delle occasioni in cui indossarlo e con quali accessori. Come Consulente d’Immagine, infatti, ho voluto dare alcuni consigli ai miei lettori amanti di questa bellissima stoffa.
infatti, il velluto non è certo la scelta migliore in alcune situazioni, come ad esempio un ambiente corporate. può invece essere il miglior alleato per tutti coloro i quali lavorano o si muovono in un ambiente artistico. Ricordate che dopotutto riprendiamo il mood anni ’70!

Quali sono le situazioni migliori per indossare un outfit in velluto?

Ricordate sempre che, mentre lo si può naturalmente indossare di giorno, non consiglierei un total look in velluto per la mattina o il pomeriggio. A meno che, naturalmente, la tua personalità vi faccia sentire bene in un outfit decisamente bold!
I capi in velluto tradizionalmente sono sempre stati considerati grandiosi per gli eventi serali. Una camicetta di velluto nero con pantaloni sempre in velluto nero e un paio di scarpe col tacco è un outfit senza tempo.

Notate che non c’è bisogno di alcun blazer qui, perchè una blusa o camicia in velluto a parte il volume del tessuto, ha già una personalità molto forte e può essere indossata da sola. Non è minimalista nonostante la tinta unita, in quanto tende ad essere setoso e sfuggente. Render comunque un outfit elegante anche se in un contest classico e conservatore.

Style tip: a seconda dell’occasione e del tuo umore, un outfit in velluto nero può risultare anche misterioso e dark, se lo crei nel modo giusto.

Quali gioielli indossare col velluto

Il velluto ha un’allure piuttosto marcata, quindi consiglio fortemente di evitare gioielli con pietre molto lucide perché questo tenderebbe a creare confusione dal punto di vista visual.
Inoltre, bisognerebbe mantenere lo styling coerente con I fatto che questo tessuto ti può far sembrare “drammatica” se troppo accessoriata!

lo so: di sera tutti vogliamo indossare I gioielli più bold. Comunque, tieni a mente questo. Il velluto già di suo attira molto l’attenzione. Ricorda che non vogliamo un outfit con delle aree confuse o caotiche!

Per esempio, se indossi una blusa con le maniche lunghe indossa tranquillamente gli anelli, ma cerca di tenere a bada l’impulso di arricchire I polsi di molti bracciali. Infatti, indossare gioielli a contatto col velluto potrebbe risultare esteticamente eccessivo così come anche poco pratico!

Allo stesso tempo non si dovrebbero indossare collane troppo vistose. Sempre naturalmente nell’ottica di non voler creare aree di confusione sul nostro outfit., soprattutto vicino al viso!  Al contrario, le collane dovrebbero essere di perle o pietre semi preziose, meglio ancora se leggermente opache o tagliate a cabochon.
Non consiglio pietre sfaccettate, per non aggiungere una luce eccessiva al decollete. Le persone devono vedere il nostro viso, non i nostri gioielli!

Invece vi dò il via libera per orecchini importanti, perchè in linea con lo stile del velluto da sera e perchè vi danno un mood perfetto per osare.

Come faccio a sapere che sto facendo bene?

Prova a chiudere gli occhi e cerca di concentrarti su di te mentre sarai seduta al tavolo del ristorante. Che cosa vedono gli altri? Essenzialmente il tuo busto, il viso, le braccia, le mani. Pensa a quanto abbiamo appena detto di questo: l’occasione, l’effetto di allargamento ottico, iI volume, e le aree del tuo outfit.

Ora immagina divederti con addosso la tua blusa in velluto e I gioielli che indosserai, mentre parli e muovi le mani. Sta funzionando? Ti fa sentire “giusta”? se immagini il perfetto outfit da ristorante e la risposta è sì, bravissima, ce l’hai fatta! Goditi il tuo outfit da sera privo di difetti!

E adesso vi racconto di quella volta in cui non ero d’accordo con nessuno!

È arrivato il momento di confidarvi un segreto. Il peggior outfit in velluto che abbia mai visto risale a molti anni fa, ed era un insieme caotico di elementi di diverso stie e diversi designer, ma proprio tipo che c’erano Prada, Cavalli e Armani TUTTI INSIEME.

Immaginai che l’idea alla base di questo collage fosse “tutto ciò che trovo in verde chiaro, non importa cosa”. Chi lo indossava era una persona influente nel campo del design, e se ne stava lì seduta su una poltrona con la gente attorno a lei che le gridava “sei una dea!”, mentre tutto quello che io riuscivo a pensare era… “Oh mio Dio. Questo è un crimine contro lo stile, chiamate la polizia della moda!”

Credetemi quando vi dico che possiamo essere sicuri che quella fu la prima volta che cominciai a pensare di scrivere questo articolo.
O di controllare se era arrivato il circo.

Qual è il vostro mood quando vi preparate per uscire la sera? Tendete ad essere classiche o drammatiche? È incredibile come il velluto possa essere entrambe queste due cose! Io personalmente tendo ad essere molto basic, ma sono curiosa di conoscere le vostre preferenze!
