A 92 anni ci lascia Ottavio Missoni, fondatore e filosofo del brand. Un pezzo di storia del Made in Italy che se ne va.
Ottavio Missoni è sempre stato molto più che uno stilista, è stato un pensatore libero, un uomo legato alle tradizioni della sua terra d’origine, la dalmazia. Quanti di voi sanno che i disegni dei vostri capi Missoni derivano dalla tradizione dell’artigianato tessile dalmata?
Lui non aveva uno yacht, aveva un barcone storico restaurato arredato con i tessuti che più amava, con cui la famiglia prendeva parte alla Barcolana, la famosa manifestazione velistica triestina.
Missoni ha fatto un pezzo di storia della moda italiana, sin dagli anni ’60; ecco alcune date: Nell’aprile 1969 WWD gli dedicò la pagina di apertura, nel 1973 il Neiman Marcus Fashion Award, nel 1986 Ottavio riceve l’onorificenza di Commendatore della Repubblica. In quell’occasione disse: “Non compro abiti firmati, mi metto quello che mi piace. Quando sono stato invitato al Quirinale mi serviva uno smoking… Non producendo io quella roba, sono entrato da Armani e ne ho comprato uno.”

Ottavio Missoni has always been much more than a fashion designer, he used to be a free thinker, a man who always loved and felt near to the traditions of his homeland, Dalmatia. How many know that the typical Missoni we are wearing toady come from the textile traditions of Dalmatia?
He did not use to spend his time on a yacht, he owned a historic barge he restored, that was furnished with the typical fabrics from his brand and the other things that he loved most, and all the family took part in this to the Barcolana, the famous sailing event in Trieste.
Missoni really made a piece of history of Italian fashion since the 60s, here are some dates: April 1969 WWD dedicated the opening page to Missoni, in 1973 the Neiman Marcus Fashion Award, in 1986 Ottavio received the honor of Commander of the Republic. On that occasion he said: “I do not buy designer clothes, I wear what I like. When I was invited to the Quirinale I needed a tuxedo… since I do not produce that stuff, I went to Armani and I bought one.”
